How to use Kohinga Kupu
Kohinga = Collection, Kupu = Word. Enter a topic and Kohinga Kupu generates a thematic cluster of related te reo Māori vocabulary for you to explore and learn.
Getting Started
1. Enter a topic
Type any topic word into the search box — in English or te reo Māori. Broader topics tend to return richer clusters. Try awa, kāinga, or school.
2. Review your kohinga
Kohinga Kupu returns up to 8 thematically linked kupu with English definitions and a category label. AI can still make mistakes. Use the Te Aka and Paekupu links on each card to verify any words you're unsure of. Remove any kupu that don't fit using the delete icon.
3. Practise
Use the activities listed below to reinforce your vocabulary. Kia kaha te reo Māori!

Flash Cards
Flip through your kupu one by one. Mark cards as Mastered as you go and track your progress through the deck.
E Rua E Rua
A drag-and-drop word matching game. Match each kupu Māori to its English definition against the clock.
Rerenga Kōrero
Generate simple active sentences using the kupu in your kohinga to see them used in context.
Whakaharatau Kōrero
Practise your kupu in a short AI conversation. Choose from three scenarios tailored to your topic, chat in te reo Māori for five or six exchanges, then see which words you used and get one suggestion for next time.
